Everyone’s quality of life is heavily influenced by their mental health. So, it makes sense to view mental health as physical health. We are social beings and are not designed to live in isolation. Surviving the COVID-19 pandemic caused everyone to realize how critical it is for us to thrive together as a community, especially for someone with mental illness already experiencing the common symptoms of loneliness and isolation.
Realizing the gravity of mental health issues after the pandemic, The New Hope Mental Health Counseling Services has ushered in a new era in mental health care that proactively takes steps to address everyone’s mental health needs, regardless of race, age, gender, culture, and financial statues.
The programs and services offered by The New Hope are tailored to each client’s needs by utilizing evidence-based interventions to treat a range of conditions, including anger management, depression, anxiety, bipolar, couples counseling, family counseling, and trauma therapy. What sets The New Hope apart is how they have built a culturally competent environment within the organization that equips clinicians with skills that value, understand, and respond to each client’s cultural differences. Having clinicians who speak six different languages, like Spanish, Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, Haitian-Creole, and Greek, allows them to deliver exceptional mental health counseling services to a large minority base population. This creates a safe space for clients to feel more open with a therapist who looks like them and understands their language and culture, allowing them to express their feelings in the most unfiltered form.
The New Hope follows a wellness model of psychiatry that uses evidence-based therapeutic interventions like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Rational Emotional Behavioral Therapy (REBT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) that form a foundation for its therapeutic support for its clients. Mental health affects everyone, even in everyday challenges, i.e., starting a new job or getting a divorce.
Lately, the rising cost of health insurance has become a significant barrier to accessing care for people with mental health problems. The New Hope puts this challenge to rest with its nonprofit initiative, The Speak Hope Foundation, which aims to reduce the economic burden for clients struggling to meet the increasing costs of mental health services. The Foundation intends to raise funds and pay clinicians to continue treating individuals who can’t afford to pay for their mental health treatment. The Foundation offers an affordable sliding scale where the cost of treatment is prohibitive for some clients. This allows clients to access counseling services at a lower price based on their financial circumstances.
In addition, The New Hope’s emergency walk-in clinic has opened doors for clients to get immediate healthcare support. Individuals do not need a prior appointment; they can easily walk in and meet a licensed therapist who’ll provide them with immediate assistance.
“It is the ceaseless effort of our clinicians coupled with our appetite for providing affordable mental health services to treat everyone regardless of race, age, or socioeconomic status that has brought this firm to where it is today,” says Clinton Clovis, president of The New Hope MHCS.
Mr. Clovis is pursuing his Ph.D. in general psychology with an emphasis on mental health administration and trauma. He didn’t want to be just another person of color with a very successful practice: he wanted to be an expert on mental health. He aims to help organizations make a real impact in their communities. His company’s success speaks for itself.
One of his clients lived with his parents, had a substance use disorder, and was affected by trauma due to parental neglect. This severely affected his ability to make healthy life choices. But with The New Hope’s services and Mr. Clovis’s expert care, the client found his voice and could speak openly about his mental health challenges. The client, who was once homeless, had multiple arrests and was constantly in and out of prison, now has a job, is married, and living his best life.
These success stories reveal that The New Hope is always at the helm when it comes to delivering hope through efficient mental healthcare services.
